The Sickness Allowance offered by the Social Security System (SSS) is a safety net for members who cannot work due to short-term illness or injury. This program is designed to give daily cash support and ease financial struggles during recovery.
Both employed individuals and self-employed, voluntary, or overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can claim this allowance in 2025, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
Overview
The Philippines Sickness Allowance 2025 provides a daily cash benefit equal to 90 percent of a member’s average daily salary credit (ADSC). The benefit is calculated using the member’s salary credits, but the maximum monthly salary credit (MSC) considered is capped at ₱20,000. Even if the member’s actual salary is higher, the calculation won’t exceed this ceiling.
SSS allows qualified members to claim this benefit for a maximum of 120 days in one calendar year. This ensures that those who are temporarily unable to work due to illness or injury can still receive support during their recovery period.

Eligibility
Not all SSS members can automatically qualify. You need to meet these conditions to claim the sickness allowance in 2025:
- You must be an active SSS member with at least three monthly contributions in the 12 months prior to the semester of illness or injury.
- You must be unable to work for at least four consecutive days due to sickness or injury, whether treated at home or in a hospital.
- If you’re employed, you should first use your company’s sick leave with pay before applying for SSS benefits.
- For self-employed, voluntary, or OFW members, you must notify SSS directly.
- You must not have already used up the 120-day sickness allowance for the year.
Amount
The daily cash allowance is based on 90 percent of your average daily salary credit. To compute:
- Exclude the semester of illness.
- Use the 12 months before that semester.
- Identify the six highest monthly salary credits within those 12 months (with MSC capped at ₱20,000).
- Add the six highest MSCs and divide by 180 to get the average daily salary.
- Multiply the result by 90 percent.
- Multiply the daily allowance by the total number of approved sickness days.
Sample Computation
Suppose a member is sick for 20 days in September 2025:
- Semester of illness: July–December 2025 (excluded).
- Use the 12 months before (Jan–Dec 2024).
- Six highest MSCs: ₱20,000 each (capped) → ₱120,000.
- Average daily salary = ₱120,000 ÷ 180 = ₱666.66.
- Daily sickness allowance = ₱666.66 × 90% = ₱600.
- For 20 days: ₱600 × 20 = ₱12,000.
So, the member receives ₱12,000 for 20 days of approved sickness.
Application
Here’s how to claim the sickness allowance in 2025:
- Employed members should inform their employer within five days of getting sick. The employer then files the claim with SSS.
- Self-employed, voluntary, and OFWs should file directly with SSS within five days of illness (or within 35 days if confined abroad).
- Required documents include a Sickness Notification Form, medical certificate, and proof of contributions.
Payments are made directly to the member or through the employer, depending on membership type.
